This course will focus on the reading, interpretation, and evaluation of select literary texts from the canon and outside, including literatures from predominantly the anglophone world but also in translation to English. The reading may be selected302240across genres, locations, and periods, and may be contextually situated302240in theoretical frames like302240gender and postcolonial studies. Texts representative of the historical period from the Early Modern and the Long nineteenth-century to contemporary writing may be included, which will help give an overview of the trajectory of literary studies.
