The proposed course introduces students to the foundations of media studies as a field of research, pedagogy, and practice. The course explores a humanities-oriented approach to media where media becomes an operative term to bring together a wide array of disciplines like film studies, visual cultures, digital cultures, television studies, and media archaeology. It trains students to critically and effectively engage with key concepts, approaches, and debates in the field that focuses on: • Media, culture and society • Popular Culture and Media • Film and Media theory • Practices of looking • Introduction to Media through the senses • Form, genres and movements • Media infrastructures • Cinema decades • Production, distribution and circulation • Archive • Stardom and fandom
