Abstract:
        In this introductory lecture, Professor Robinson will outline the 'why', 'when' and 'who' of the origins of the Constitution of India. She will discuss how and why struggles against colonial rule threw up the idea of framing an Indian Constitution and will speak of the way in which the Constituent Assembly was constituted and detail briefly the history of its deliberations.

The talk will be followed by the screening of the last (10th) episode of Shyam Benegal's 'SAMVIDHAN' titled 'From Preamble to the Final Draft and beyond'.


About the Speaker:
        Professor Robinson teaches and researches in the discipline of sociology at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Institute and has also taught at various points of time in Delhi University, JNU and IITG.
