In the inaugural lecture of the Institute Lecture Series on the Indian Constitution, Justice B N Srikrishna will address the issue of Constitutionality itself, of why modern democratic nations have Constitutions and bring out the key features of the Indian Constitution including such aspects as separation of powers, federalism, the protection of the liberties of individuals and the promotion of national goals –fundamental rights and directive principles. 

About the Speaker: Justice B N Srikrishna is an eminent jurist and a retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India. After his studies at Elphinstone College, Government Law College and theUniversity of Mumbai, Justice Srikrishna entered private practice in the Bombay High Court in 1962 specializing in labor and industrial law. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 1987. In 1990, he was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 1990 and as a permanent judge in 1991. In 1993, he assumed charge of the Commission of Inquiry into the riots that took place in Bombay in 1992–93. The ‘Srikrishna Commission’ as it became known, submitted its report in 1998, and generated widespread interest in India and abroad. In September 2001, Justice Srikrishna was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court and on 3 October 2002 was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. More recently, he also chaired the Telengana Committee and the Financial Sector Legislative Reforms Commission (FSLRC).
