Abstract:
The date 6 December, 2017 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the demolish of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya - when a violent mob attacked and brought down the medieval structure. Across the country, the even unleashed violent incidents and caused the chasm to grow wider between the Hindu Majority and the countrys minorities. 6 December 1992 dramatically altered the socio-political course of India and, for many, the event went was life-changing. It went on to define their social and political commitments as well as their professional pathways. 

Dr. Dalwai will speak on a collection of essays that she has edited along with Ramu Ramanathan. Their edited book is titled Babri Masjid: 25 Years On.

About the speaker
Sameena Dalwai is an Associate Professor of Law at Jindal Global University and teaches family law, feminist thought, law and social transformation. She did her LLM from Warwick, UK and her PhD at Keele University, which focused on dance bar ban in Mumbai. She writes on caste, gender, labour, sexuality, identity and cultural politics in English and Marathi.
