Abstract: 

       The purpose of this paper is to examine the firm-specific and macroeconomicdeterminants of profitability of Indian manufacturing firms. It assesses the main determinants of firm’s profitability in the pre-crisis and post-crisis period from 2000 to 2015.The panel generalized least square and panel vector auto-regression model have been employed. The findings confirmfirm-specific variables and exchange rate channels are quite relevant in explaining the profitability of Indian manufacturing firms. The study also concludes that in the short run, the changes in exchange rate are not increasing profitability, but in the long run, it increases profitability as the volatility of nominal exchange rate is positively impacting profitability.

Dr. Swagatika Nanda has 2 years of teaching experience at VSIT, Mumbai. She has done her Ph.D in Economics from University of Hyderabad. Her teaching includes subject such as Macroeconomics, Research Methodology, and International Finance. Her research interest involves issues in exchange rate. She has published around eight research papers. She is continuing with an ICSSR project related to Women Entrepreneurship.
