Abstract:

      The later Heidegger conceived of the ways in which his thinking was held back because thinking failed in the adequate statement of thought’s turning (Kehre), and could not capture itself in the language of metaphysics. Heidegger considered this possibility of the turning of thought as a projection of being in the openness of the world, which is not only human but also an animal being in the open. Derrida’s reading of Heidegger’s Kehrein terms of ‘communication with the Other’ and what he termed as ‘the mark of the Genitive in language’ is fascinating. The talk would explore this intricate relationship of simultaneous openness and closure of Being through the Derridean play of the hollowness of ‘inside and outside’ in language, which implies an overflow of every limit towards an Other.

        Prasenjit Biswas is currently Associate Professor of Philosophy at North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. Previously he taught Philosophy at ISM Dhanbad, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and Assam University, Silchar. He specializes in Phenomenology and Continental Philosophy, Philosophies of Northeast India, Ethnophilosophy, Philosophy of Science, and Political Philosophy. He has published Between Philosophy and Anthropology (Notion Press, 2017), Construction of Evil in North East India (SAGE, 2012), and Ethnic Life-Worlds in North East India (SAGE, 2008), besides other books and papers. He has also been a leading human rights’ activist from North East India and chairs Barak Human Rights’ Protection Committee, Silchar.
